Everyone at some point in their life will be faced with the need to order flowers for funerals. The death of a loved one is a very painful experience for anyone and while we know and understand that flowers cannot take the pain away, the simple act of sending flowers is telling someone you care. This article will help you through this difficult time and present you with the best possible way to order flowers for funerals.

Purchasing flowers for funerals is not as easy as going to the grocery store and buying a bouquet.

There are a few rules of etiquette that you need to be aware of and follow before having flowers delivered to a church, funeral home, or directly to the grieving person.

Before you order the flowers it is extremely important that they are sent to the proper location at the correct date and time. Depending on the funeral arrangements there may be a separate visitation and wake services. Funerals can also take place in a variety of locations. Confirm the location, date, and time for the funeral before purchasing or sending flowers. Once you have the location, you should contact the location to determine any special delivery instructions they require and the times of acceptable deliveries. Most funeral parlors and burial sites will accept flower deliveries the day before services are scheduled and request you clearly state on the delivery that the flowers are attended for. If you are unable to have the flowers delivered in time for the service, it is acceptable to send them to the family’s home no earlier than the day after the service.

When ordering flowers for funerals, you should pay special attention to the type and style of the floral arrangement you choose. The family of the departed is likely to have ordered a special floral arrangement. These usually consist of casket wreath floral sprays. Usually large groups will pool their money and order a sympathy wreath or other standing floral arrangement for the services. If you are an individual wanting to express your sympathy you may wish to order a small basket of flowers that can be delivered directly to the family after the funeral is over.

Finally, before ordering find out if family has not made any special requests. Sometime, in lieu of flowers a family will ask for a charitable donation or a gift to a special fund. You should always honor these requests and send a card instead of flowers if you feel the need.

Selecting and sending flowers for funerals is not an easy or enjoyable task. However if you follow these simple rules of etiquette you will have no issues when ordering and sending flowers to someone who really needs to know they are not alone.
